Have you test driven Release 12? O.K. at first I would have to say no but not since Oct 2007. We tried to test drive R12 but couldnt get our sales guys to demo a live version of R12. Our sales account manager needed to work with his oracle consulting partners to resolve our request. The consulting guys actually wanted money to demo R12 vision. Oracle consulting actually wanted for us to pay to host R12 Vision (PLEASE). For those of you new to Oracle Oracle EBS software ship with a pre-loaded database that is setup to run a company called Vision Corporation. Its like the old scott/tiger database schema for you DBAs our there. Anyway Our sales guy is not to blame he?s expected to know Siebel, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft and Oracle Apps etc. He didnt have a clue what the Vision Demo database was ( to be expected with his experience with peoplesoft). Our sales guy (Applications Sales guy, Im pretty sure we have seven other sales people assigned to our account) hes great at looking at balance sheets and crunching numbers and talking to higher ups like CFOs and accounting folks. He?s real a nice guy. However, he wasnt so good when working with a privately held company that doesnt publish their annual reports, and is the type of fellow that doesnt work outside of the box. Countless times I was asked what our your business problems so I can sell you some software. We have always known about vision and had actually ordered the software - we just didn?t have the hardware resources on our unix boxes to make it happen (500 gigabytes disk and 2 gigs minimum ram). We wanted more than a canned demo. We wanted to get the look and feel of the applications for ourselves. We wanted to compare R11.5.10 to R12 and see if we could come up with a business reason to upgrade. OH, our only reason to upgrade is come June 2008 all jurisdiction and quarterly patch support for our 11.5.9 applications is discontinued. What we really wanted was to let each of our power users login to Vision demo database and select their responsibilities (I.E. Purchasing Super User, General Ledger Super User, U.S. HRMS Manager, etc) and provide some feedback or justifaction for which version to upgrade to. Well we found the answer. The solution to our problem came from Solution Beacon. Solution Beacon is a consulting firm and an oracle partner. Solution Beacon to our understanding is the only oracle partner that is allowed to provide a Vision Demonstration database environment to its perspective customers over the web. We did have to give over our CSI to get a login account. But is well worth it. With my one login to this demo environement I was given access to most all of the super user responsibilities and was able to allow each of my users to log in and get a look and feel for the newer releases. Yes, they even provided a R11.5.10 and R12 (R12.2.0.3) patched current. Just follow the links http://www.solutionbeacon.com/ If you have any problems finding the links once at their site just send me an e-mail and Ill be more specific to your questions.
